THE CAVE
The design brief was to create an object that would improve the studio space that we worked in. It had to be designed and then fabricated, preferably through methods of digital design. The weeks before the actual design of The Cave were spent on research concerning triangulation and cable networks.
The main idea behind the object was to shield the studio space from the corridor, but our interest for this project was primarily with the translation between the digital and physical environment.
The cave was fully designed using parametric tools. Using this workflow the 73 unique triangles of the cave could be produced effectively using a CNC-router. Producing the triangles by hand would have been next to impossible due to the varying sizes and angles, however using digital fabrication the geometry could be cut exactly to size. Simple flexible wooden joints were also incorporated into the design and fabricated along with the triangles.
